What began as a product line in the family’s rural merchandise store — Yarra Valley Crop Care, at Wandin — soon took on a life of its own. Bill and Doris Barker ran the farm-supplies store for 20 years, building a strong product line-up and solid reputation among local farmers for quality, advice, prompt personal service and competitive prices.
When the store took on the agency for Visyboard cardboard, local horticultural growers appreciated the diversification — finding a ready supply of packaging, delivered promptly, and with the right advice.
Rapid growth of other lines saw YV Packaging spun off on its own, run by son Glenn; while Bill retired, having sold Yarra Valley Crop Care to national group IAMA (later bought out by Wesfarmers).
The same values that were integral at Yarra Valley Crop Care, have also driven YV Packaging’s growth to where it is today: spanning three states, with products across fruit and vegetable boxes, hygiene supplies, bubble and foam, strapping, tray liners, cardboards, floriculture, wrapping solutions and plastic punnets — in which it is a leader — among others.
YV Packaging’s customers are spread across the country, ranging from the smallest berry growers to the largest tomato producers — and everything in between. A primary supplier to local industries, YV Packaging has also diversified beyond horticulture, as Glenn fielded increasing requests for allied services and products.
Growth continues to come from growers and packers asking for products YV Packaging doesn’t currently supply — the YV Packaging team will either source it, or arrange a better solution!
Having such a diverse range of customers gives YV Packaging greater buying power from both local and international suppliers. For those who need packaging, it means a better deal.
